Dear Bonnie Crombie:
Thank you for the phone call the other day announcing your candidacy for the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party. I’m not sure how you got my phone number, though. I suppose you have your ways. After all, your party is desperate. You need all the support you can get. “Every Liberal in the province working together to beat Doug Ford” obviously means including a right-leaning conservative/libertarian like me. Can’t blame you for trying. You obviously put your money where your mouth is when you speak about inclusion.
Even though I would probably have more in common politically with Attila the Hun, a term a former Conservative MP who served in Brian Mulroney’s government recently used to describe me, than with you, I couldn’t agree more with your statement that Ontario has suffered under Doug Ford’s government. Your anger came through loud and clear as you spoke. I share that sentiment as well. I recently described him as a ruthless dictator, though I remain convinced a government led by your party would be even more ruthless. All I need to do is point to your party’s last leader, who wanted to force children to take the death shot in order to be permitted a public education their parents pay through the nose for.
But even though you seem determined and claim to be in it for the long haul, my advice to you is not to quit your day job as the Mayor Emir of Mississauga.
Because the Ontario Liberals already have a leader.
His name is Doug Ford.
