Why I Voted New Blue

May 18, 2022

This afternoon, I visited my local returning office, where, for the second time, I voted in an Ontario provincial election.

I’ll share my thought process as to why I voted for my New Blue candidate.

First of all, I had long since decided that none of the establishment socialist parties were an option. Especially not the Doug Ford Party. Even before Ford declared war on the people on Ontario, I wasn’t happy with him. He spent more than the previous spend-happy Liberal government he replaced that made Ontario the most indebted sub-national government in the world. He caved in to the greedy unions. Then there was an endless cycle of illegal lockdowns, which caused human suffering and destruction far beyond the capabilities of any virus. A flip-flop on those morally repugnant poison passes. Forced poison injections. Snuggling up into bed with Justin Trudeau. Bringing back the vote tax he strongly campaigned against. The list goes on. Betrayal and criminal behavior on such an epic scale does not deserve my vote, and I hope not yours. Not to mention that my local DFP candidate is a bumbling buffoon who I couldn’t vote for regardless of the party he was representing.

Failing an acceptable alternative, I would have either returned my ballot or not voted at all, even if meant paving the way for an NDP-Liberal coalition government. I am prepared to compromise to some degree, but I am not interested in distinguishing between flavors of NDP. One of the many reasons I left Manitoba was to get away from a province that has a fatal attraction for the NDP.

But, fortunately, there are alternatives.

My heart remains with the Libertarians. They are the party that best represents my views. But they are running so few candidates and, frankly, they seem to be in trouble. I want my vote to count.

That leaves the two true conservative options, the New Blue Party and the Ontario Party. Both are run by principled conservatives with whom I share many values. But between them, it was an easy choice to side with the New Blue. They are better organized, better funded and are running a full slate of candidates in addition to having more popular support. Not to mention that Ontario Party leader Derek Sloan’s credibility is waning.

So that’s why I voted New Blue. And to my friends in Ontario, I hope you do too.
