Highlights from a garbage-day stroll around town:

1. Someone nearby had a hankering for Atlantic oysters. Better than Rocky Mountain oysters, I suppose.

2. One house had a box from Jackson-Triggs at the curb, while another had a box from LCBO alongside empty packets of drink mix and plenty of Coke cans. Whatever your problems, alcoholic beverages are not the answer.

3. There were fewer drink cans than normal at the curb, but one house had a big pail full of Coke bottles. Next time you wonder why diabetes is such a problem . . .

4. It was heartwarming to see so many blue bins full of plastic water bottles. Up yours, liberals!

5. One house had three big boxes of Jack Link’s beef jerky. Feed your wild side, the slogan says. To each his own.

6. Two homes had empty boxes of frozen treats. And it’s not even summer yet. In fact, it’s been quite cool lately.

7. One place had a big jug of no-name Miracle Whip at the curb. Methinks obesity is a problem in that household.

8. According to the big sign next to a door, the house was filled with love. Based on the three empty cardboard boxes at the curb, it was also filled with Domino’s Pizza.

8a. Like the soft drink cans, the number of pizza boxes I spotted was noticeably lower than normal.

9. One house had a box of Lucky Charms at the curb. Why not just buy a bag of sugar instead? At least you avoid all the coloring and other assorted not-good-for-you ingredients.

10. An interesting sighting was an empty bottle of Alpenbitter. Whatever it is, it’s 40% alcohol. And something I’d more have expected to find downtown or on Queenston Street.
