Eastbound view over the Manitoba boundary. For some reason, there are two King's Highway 17 reassurance markers in short succession and the large sign indicates that the speed limit on this stretch of highway is 90 km/h. In neighboring Manitoba, the speed limit is 100 km/h. At left is the stub of highway where the former PTH 1, later redesignated as PTH 4 and currently PTH 44, entered Ontario and joined with King's Highway 17. That highway was still in use in Manitoba into the 1970s. Older highway maps indicate that Ontario never did designate a highway number for that brief stretch of road. Photograph taken in July 2011. |
