This portion of the route leads from the park boundary at Road 24E across the causeway leading to Grassy Narrows Marsh. The northbound/southbound labels refer to the orientation as the highway proceeds south while on a northbound orientation and vise versa while crossing Grassy Narrows on the causeway that separates the mainland from Hecla Island.
The causeway has been named for Capt. Grimolfur “Grimsi” Grimolfson, who captained the Hecla Island Ferry from 1953 to 1972, when the causeway was built. Commemorative signage was unveiled on PTH 8 with Capt. Grimolfson's family and Gimli MLA Peter Bjornson in July 2011. Capt. Grimolfson was born on Hecla Island in 1913 and passed away in nearby Riverton in 1986.
