Traded by Jets to Calgary Cowboys for Minnesota's second round choice in the 1977 WHA Amateur Draft, October 25, 1976. Traded with Danny Lawson and Calgary's 1st round draft choice in 1977 to Jets by Calgary Cowboys for Hexi Riihiranta and Veli-Pekka Ketola, March 9, 1977. Signed as a free agent, March 31, 1978.
The Jets signed defenseman Mike Ford from the Detroit Red Wings' organization in the summer of 1974. Often partnered with Lars-Erik Sjoberg, he was a regular on the Jets' blue line for the next two seasons and helped the Jets to their first AVCO Cup championship in 1976. The Jets traded him to the Calgary Cowboys early in the 1976-1977 season, but reacquired him late in the year. He spent most of the 1977-1978 season in Sweden, but he joined the Jets for a third time late in the year in time for the playoffs. He moved on and finished his career with several seasons in Germany. He impressed his teammates with his tireless work ethic and was known for his booming shot from the point. After his playing career, he once owned a sporting goods store in Fort Richmond.
