The Jets signed defenseman Dallas Eakins in October 1989 and he made his Jets and NHL debut in his fourth season in the Jets' organization. He moved on to the Florida Panthers' and St. Louis Blues' organizations before making a brief return stop with the Jets in 1995-1996. He continued to spend most of his time in the minor leagues, but he did make cameo appearances in the NHL over the next eight seasons with six different teams before ending his playing career following the 2003-2004 season. Eakins embarked on a coaching career in the Toronto Maple Leafs' organization one season later and worked with the Leafs and their farm team.
