Rights acquired from Houston Aeros for cash, July 6, 1978. Reclaimed by St. Louis Blues prior to Expansion Draft, June 9, 1979. Claimed by Jets as a priority selection, June 9, 1979. Traded to St. Louis Blues with John Markell for Bryan Maxwell, Ed Staniowski and Paul MacLean, July 3, 1981.
The Jets purchased the contract of Scott Campbell along with many other former members of the defunct Houston Aeros and the big defenseman provided an imposing physical presence that helped the Jets to capture the AVCO Cup in 1979. In a controversial decision, the Jets elected to protect Campbell along with Morris Lukowich going forward into the NHL, but injuries brought a premature end to his promising career. After being traded to the St. Louis Blues in the summer of 1981, he retired from hockey following the 1981-1982 season.
