Traded to Jets by St. Louis Blues for Craig Norwich, June 19, 1980.
The Jets acquired Rick Bowness during the summer of 1980 and he split the 1980-1981 season between the Jets and their farm team in Tulsa. He spent most of the next three seasons in the Jets' farm system before turning to coaching, where he eventually succeeded Dan Maloney as the Jets' head coach near the end of the 1988-1989 season. He would go on to have a long coaching career as both a head coach and an assistant with a number of NHL teams, including the relocated Jets' franchise in Arizona.
