Gord Tumilson made the inaugural Jets roster out of training camp and was their third-string goaltender during the 1972-1973 season. Though he spent most of the season on the sidelines, he did get into three games and earned first-star honors in his first start when the Jets dropped a 4-3 decision to the Ottawa Nationals at the Winnipeg Arena on 1 December 1972.
