The Jets acquired Phil Sykes from the Los Angeles Kings in December 1989 and he spent the next two and a half seasons with the Jets before his retirement. Following a standout career at the University of North Dakota, Sykes signed with the Kings and spent parts of seven seasons in Los Angeles before being traded to the Jets.
