The Jets acquired Steve Rooney in January 1987 and he spent parts of two seasons with the Jets before being dealt to the New Jersey Devils in the summer of 1988. His last NHL action came in 1988-1989 with the Devils and he spent three seasons in the minor leagues to wind up his playing career. Rooney was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens late in the 1981 Entry Draft and he spent parts of three seasons with the Canadiens after four seasons at Providence College. While at Providence, he was a roommate of former Jet Peter Taglianetti.
