Traded to Jets with Tyler Larter and Bob Joyce by Washington Capitals for Craig Duncanson, Brent Hughes and Simon Wheeldon, May 21, 1991. Claimed by Ottawa Senators in Expansion Draft, June 18, 1992.
The Jets acquired defenseman Kent Paynter during the summer of 1991 and he spent one season in the Jets' organization before being claimed by the Senators in the Expansion Draft the following year. He went on to play six more pro seasons, mostly in the minor leagues, before winding up his playing career. Paynter was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1983 and he made his first NHL appearance in 1987-1988 with the Blackhawks.
