Centerman Ulf Nilsson signed with the Jets in early May 1974 along with fellow countryman Anders Hedberg and the pair combined with Bobby Hull to form the “Hot Line”, which became one of the best lines in hockey history. Nilsson played the role of playmaker between the two sharpshooters and tallied 100 points or more in each of his four seasons with the Jets. He was an integral part of two AVCO Cup championship teams, a four-time All-Star, and he was the most valuable player in the 1976 playoffs. Following the 1977-1978 season, both he and Hedberg left the Jets to sign lucrative contracts with the New York Rangers, but Nilsson's career in New York was cut short by injuries.
