Winnipeg's 4th round choice, 51st overall, in 1974 WHA Amateur Draft. Selected from St. Louis Blues in Expansion Draft, June 13, 1979.
The Jets claimed Gord McTavish from the St. Louis Blues in the Expansion Draft. He spent most of the 1979-1980 season in the Jets' organization before being released prior to end of the year. He wound up his playing career with one season in Switzerland. McTavish was originally a first-round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in 1974 and he was also selected by the Jets in the fourth round of the WHA Amateur Draft. He chose to sign with the Canadiens, but after four seasons in the Canadiens' organization, he was traded to the Blues. He made his NHL debut with the Blues in 1978-1979, but he spent the most of that season with their farm team.
