The Jets acquired Dave McLlwain from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the summer of 1989 as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Jim Kyte and Andrew McBain to Pittsburgh. He spent two full seasons with the Jets before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres after three games of the 1991-1992 season. He bounced around with several different teams and last saw NHL action in 1996-1997 during his second tour of duty with the New York Islanders. He wound up his playing career with more than a decade in Europe, playing in both Switzerland and Germany. McLlwain was originally drafted by the Penguins in 1986 and he spent two seasons in their organization prior to being dealt to the Jets. As a Jet, he was most noted for his 1989-1990 season in which he scored a career-high 25 goals, seven of which came while the Jets were shorthanded.
