Winnipeg native Ab McDonald signed with the Jets in August 1972 and became the Jets' first captain. He spent two seasons with the Jets and was a respected leader during his time in a Jets uniform. He retired following the 1973-1974 season. McDonald made his NHL debut in the 1958 playoffs and he played for six different teams over the next 14 seasons in which he appeared in five All-Star games.
