Signed as a free agent, June, 1978. Reclaimed by Washington Capitals prior to Expansion Draft, June 9, 1979.
The Jets signed defenseman Paul MacKinnon in the summer of 1978. The reliable, stay-at-home defender elected to sign with the Jets ahead of the Washington Capitals, who had selected him in the second round of the 1978 Amateur Draft. He played the entire 1978-1979 season with the Jets and was a regular on the team that captured the AVCO Cup championship that year. His rights were reclaimed by the Capitals following the Jets' entry into the NHL and he remained with the Capitals until ending his playing career after the 1983-1984 season.
