The Jets acquired winger Morris Lukowich from the defunct Houston Aeros during the summer of 1978 and he exploded with his best season in 1978-1979, scoring 65 goals in leading the Jets to the AVCO Cup championship. He was one of two players the Jets were allowed to protect going into the NHL and he went on to spend the next six seasons with the Jets before he was traded to the Boston Bruins in February 1985. Lukowich spent time with the Bruins and Los Angeles Kings before winding up his distinguished career in 1987-1988 in Italy. He broke into pro hockey with the Houston Aeros in 1976-1977 and elected to sign with the Aeros ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the opportunity to play with Gordie Howe.
