Traded to Jets with Mike Ford and Calgary's 1st round draft choice in 1977 by Calgary Cowboys for Hexi Riihiranta and Veli-Pekka Ketola, March 9, 1977.
The Jets acquired Danny Lawson from the Calgary Cowboys late in the 1976-1977 season and he added some much-needed depth to an injury-ravaged lineup that made it back to the AVCO Cup finals for the second consecutive season. He retired following the 1976-1977 season. Lawson broke into the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and went on to play for the Minnesota North Stars and Buffalo Sabres before signing with the Philadelphia Blazers in the summer of 1972. His 61-goal season in 1972-1973 led the WHA and he was a five-time WHA All-Star during his time with the Blazers/Cowboys franchise. His 218 goals is eighth all-time in WHA history.
