Traded to Jets with Darrin Shannon and Mike Hartman by Buffalo Sabres for Dave McLlwain. Gord Donnelly, Winnipeg's 5th round choice in 1992 Entry Draft and future considerations, October 11, 1991. Claimed by Edmonton Oilers in Waiver Draft, January 18, 1995.
The Jets acquired stay-at-home defenseman Dean Kennedy from the Buffalo Sabres just after the start of the 1991-1992 season and he played the next three seasons with the Jets. His first season in a Jets uniform was marred by a serious knee injury, but he recovered and eventually was named captain. He was claimed by the Edmonton Oilers in the Waiver Draft prior to the start of the 1995 season and he finished his playing career that year with the Oilers. He was originally a second-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Kings in 1981 and he made his NHL debut in 1982-1983. He went on to play for the Kings, New York Rangers, and Sabres before joining the Jets. He listed his childhood idol as Dave “Tiger” Williams.
