Signed as a free agent, June 13, 1988. Traded with Craig Duncanson and Simon Wheeldon to Washington Capitals for Bob Joyce, Tyler Larter and Kent Paynter, May 21, 1991.
Following four seasons of junior hockey and one season in the minor leagues, the Jets signed winger Brent Hughes in the summer of 1988. He made his NHL debut in 1988-1989 and played three seasons in the Jets' organization before being dealt to the Washington Capitals in the summer of 1991. The next season, he was traded to the Boston Bruins and spent three full seasons in Boston after which he was claimed by the Buffalo Sabres in the Waiver Draft prior to the start of the 1995-1996 season. He spent one season with the Sabres and another with the New York Islanders before winding up his playing career in the minor leagues.
