Signed as a free agent, November 8, 1985. Traded with Jim Kyte and Andrew McBain to Pittsburgh Penguins for Randy Cunneyworth, Rick Tabaracci and Dave McLlwain, June 17, 1989. Traded to Jets by Florida Panthers for Stu Barnes and St. Louis' 6th round choice in 1994 Entry Draft, November 25, 1993.
The Jets signed former Winnipeg Warriors' junior star Randy Gilhen as a free agent in November 1985 and he spent parts of three seasons with the Jets before being dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the blockbuster trade involving Jim Kyte and Andrew McBain in June 1989. He spent two seasons with the Penguins and was part of their Stanley Cup championship team in 1991. He moved on and played for several teams including the Kings, Rangers, Lightning, and Panthers before the Jets re-acquired him in trade in November 1993. He remained with the Jets through their final season in 1995-1996, then wound up his playing career in Winnipeg as the first captain of the Mark Chipman Moose.
