The Jets signed rugged defenseman John Gibson late in the 1978-1979 season after he was suspended by the Niagara Falls Flyers over a disagreement with his coach. After spending the rest of that season with the Jets, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings and bounced around mostly in the minor leagues for several seasons. The Jets signed him again in September 1983 and he played 11 more games for the Jets as his playing career was coming to an end.
