Not Winnipeg

December 19, 2024

While in Niagara Falls today, I was seated outside the Fallsview Casino, where I noticed a young woman with a black hoodie from Niagara College. She hooked her backpack onto a the back of a wheeled cart filled with various purchases, left everything along the wall next to a garbage can and went off down the hall to the washroom. When she came back several minutes later, all her possessions were still there and she strapped on her backpack and wheeled her cart out the door.

Later, while at Tim Davinder Hortons, a guy was seated near the door with his laptop open and a duffel bag on the chair opposite him. He got up, left his glasses on the table, along with his laptop and bag and went to the washroom. When he returned in short order, everything was still there as he left it and he went back to his online meeting.

Once again, this is not Winnipeg.

It is not the first time I have seen such things here, but this crusty old ex-Winnipegger still remains aghast at such sightings. Any loyal reader from the Old Country can guess as to the over-under of the number of seconds such things would have lasted had either incident happened there.

Not that I needed any, but these are yet more reasons why I’m so relieved to no longer be living there.
