Dear CRA
September 6, 2025
Dear CRA:
Thank you for your email. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your efforts in looking out for my best interests. Your care and attention are unmatched anywhere else in the country. And as always, I’m relieved to see my tax dollars being spent so wisely.
As a crusty old IT consultant, no one appreciates the value of online correspondence more than me. I almost always choose paperless options whenever possible. That said, however, I do not need wildly overpaid government employees (I refuse to use the term “workers”) in Gatineau sitting on their couches dressed in their pajamas while munching on chocolate crullers making choices for me. I’ve had far too much of that recently. Unlike them, who chose not to stand up for themselves during the war and blindly followed their union’s directive to line up to take deadly poison injections, I am quite capable of making my own decisions. In fact, I far prefer to do so.
Despite all the problems with the postal service, particularly around these parts, where my regular letter carrier is such a scatterbrain that we’d be better off if she just emptied the contents of her bag into a bin at the end of the street and let us dig through it to find our own mail each day, I’ll go back to paper mail, thank you very much.
And wait for one of my neighbors to put your letters in my mailbox.

Subject: Change from paper to online mail
The Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) My Account allows you to securely access your mail online -- faster and more conveniently than traditional paper mail.
What’s changing?
To ensure you don’t miss important mail due to unforeseen circumstances, such as natural disasters, or a postal disruption, starting September 5, 2025, your correspondence preference in My Account will be changed to Electronic mail, and an automated notification will be sent to your email address once this change is applied. This change will remain in effect unless you choose to update it in My Account.
What this means for you?
You will receive an email notification when new mail is available to view in My Account. The email notification will include the type of correspondence that has been added in My Account. You will no longer receive most CRA mail by paper.
If you would like to continue receiving your mail by paper, once you receive the automated notification, you can change your correspondence preference in My Account by following these steps:
1. Sign in to your CRA account and go to My Account.
2. From the Overview page, go to Profile.
3. Under Notification Preferences, select Edit.
4. From the Edit notification preferences page, select Start, de-select Electronic mail, then select Next.
5. Review the Terms of Use, acknowledge your agreement, and select Submit.
You can view your notification preferences on the Profile page in My Account anytime to make sure they are correct.
This change does not impact the manner in which you receive your benefit or credit payments. If you are currently receiving a cheque by mail for your benefit or credit, this will continue as usual. For those interested, enrolling in direct deposit can facilitate the prompt and efficient delivery of your funds. To sign up for direct deposit in My Account:
1. Sign in to your CRA account and go to My Account.
2. From the Overview page, go to Profile.
3. Under Direct deposit, select Edit.
4. From the Edit direct deposit page, select Start, enter the requested information, then select Next.
5. Review your information and select Submit.
This is an automated notification. Please do not reply.
