Slow Learners

This morning, an email popped up in my inbox from an outfit called the Conservative Leadership Foundation. According to their website, they’re all about political training. Everyone should have access to Canada’s greatest conservative minds, they say. Hone your campaign and political skills from leading conservative activists or share yours with those looking to be mentored. Become a member of the CLF and support movement conservatives in sharing best practices and taking their skills to the next level.
Sounds great.
That said, I had never even heard of them before, let alone attended any of their events or subscribed to anything from them. I’m assuming it was the CPC who kindly passed my email address on to them. Without my consent, of course. An all-too-familiar storyline, and one to be highlighted in another future book on that subject. But I digress.
Before unsubscribing from the list I never signed up for, I read their message. It was promoting an upcoming event in Toronto. Join us for real talk, fresh data and honest lessons, they say. What do you think was the worst strategy or tactic by the CPC campaign that they should change? And what do you think was the best strategy or tactic by the CPC campaign that they should keep?
And why did we win in Ontario, but fall short federally?
Huh?
For starters, we didn’t fall short federally. The “election” was stolen. But obviously these people weren’t paying attention in Ontario, because “we” didn’t win the provincial election either.
The Doug Ford Party won. The same Doug Ford who has been endorsing Justin Trudeau and Generalissimo Mark Carney, the new leader of the illegal junta governing Canada. The same Doug Ford who has been championing DEI, sex-ed in schools and making his predecessor, the free-spending Kathleen Wynne, look like a prudent money manager.
Yes, I was fooled when Ford first came to power. But I eventually figured out that he is no more of a conservative than his Liberal friends in Ottawa.
Before they start training anyone else, the leaders of this organization need some remedial training themselves.
And the first lesson is how to distinguish between a liberal and a conservative. It’s really not that hard.
But it’s one they haven’t quite mastered yet.
