A Glutton for Punishment

Under the heading of “you can’t offend a salesman or a politician,” waiting for me in my mailbox this morning was a letter from none other than Sal Sorrento. You remember, our local Doug Ford Party candidate who I reamed out on the phone a while ago.

I’m sending you this personal letter because I urgently need you to help me prepare a winning campaign ahead of this spring’s provincial election, he says. I’m counting on YOUR HELP to turn St. Catharines blue.

I’ll certainly do my part. By voting New Blue and not for Doug Ford’s Liberals. Note: Nowhere in the mailing does he refer to his party as “conservative.”

So please, complete the enclosed Pre-Writ Issues Survey for St. Catharines and return it to me using the preaddressed reply envelope provided, he goes on to say. Your survey results will help my campaign team build a winning strategy to help me win this spring so I can be YOUR VOICE at Queen’s Park.

I will have a much better chance at winning this spring if I’m armed with your honest advice and opinions when I hit the doorsteps, he adds.

He wants to be my voice at Queen’s Park, huh? Based on our brief phone conversation, he’s much more interested in representing Doug Ford’s views to me, not the other way around. Just like the other establishment socialist parties.

My commitment to you is that I will work day and night and do whatever it takes to take this seat back from the NDP so St. Catharines can send a productive voice to Queen’s Park to help Premier Doug Ford steer our province’s economic recovery, he says. Conveniently omitting the fact that a vote for Doug “Closed for Business” Ford is pretty much the same thing as a vote for the NDP. Two years ago, I half-jokingly suggested the two parties should merge, since they have so much in common. Authoritarian socialism. Big government. Spending like there’s no tomorrow.

And of course, like all politicians, he wants money . . .

When you rush me your completed survey, can I please count on you to include a tax-deductible pre-election donation of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more, or even the maximum allowable amount of $3300 to ensure we have the resources to needed to turn St. Catharines blue? The gift you send us today will help pay for critical campaign components like literature and mailouts, advertising, voter ID calls, our campaign office, and our vital get-out-the-vote programs when the election is called. So please be as generous as you can.

Doug Ford has already been generously dipping into my wallet to pay for his campaign, thank you very much. And I didn’t even get a thank you or a tax receipt.

The polls are tight and the NDP are attacking Doug Ford and the PC Party with misleading ads, he says in conclusion. But the New Blue Party, who he refuses to acknowledge, is attacking the Doug Ford Party with truthful ads and highlighting facts they’d rather you not know. And it’s the New Blue, not the NDP or the Liberals, that might be giving them the most indigestion as they head into this coming election.
