Ode to a Letter Carrier

August 27, 2024

The letter carrier comes down the street
Oddly, not in a taxi, but using her feet

She has been making so many mistakes every day
I can only wonder whose mail I will get today

Many letters have recently come addressed to my neighbor next door
And it keeps happening more and more

There was a credit card statement addressed to someone down the street
A credit card addressed to someone a half a mile away was even a bigger feat

In the past, it’s something that hardly ever happened at all
Now it’s a regular occurrence and it shows she’s not on the ball

It’s been so long since Cheers was on TV
Yet the spirit of Cliff Clavin is alive and well, I see

Put on a stamp, address it to someone’s abode
And hope it ends up in the same area code
