Pierre Poilievre in Oakville

April 27, 2025

Takeaways from CPC leader Pierre Poilievre’s rally in Oakville:

1. Easily the biggest story of the day was the crowd, which numbered around 6,000. There was a line around the block hours before the doors opened. Maybe there’s still hope for us after all.

2. Snippets of video from the event, including a walk along the long line of attendees waiting to get in:

3. Among those waiting was a trucker named Scott from Milton who, despite having a regular job, is having to convert his van into a home because he can’t afford the rents there. This is why so many are abandoning the Liberals and voting Conservative.

4. Also among those waiting was a U of Toronto student who mentioned how difficult it was to be a conservative on campus. Despite the university’s best efforts to shut it down, their conservative club is not only still around, but has grown to become the biggest in the country. Again, maybe there’s still hope for us after all.

5. Enterprising entrepreneurs were selling Poilievre flags to those in line for $10 a pop. “They’re only free at the Mark Carney rallies,” one of them said.

6. Spotted in the crowd was an old guy wearing a T-shirt with the message, “Liberalism: Find a Cure.”

7. Also spotted in the crowd was an older woman wearing far too much lipstick and makeup and whose facelift made her look far worse than if she had let nature take its course. In addition, she had a sad, forlorn look on her face. Perhaps she was a Liberal spy.

8. This guy was among those in Liberal Row – the establishment media, who I was stuck behind. There are no words that can adequately sum up the attitude and sense of entitlement among these people.

9. A few scenes from the day:
