RM of Portage la Prairie Northbound view near Road 71N. The original route of this highway took Road 71N east to present-day PR 240 (Road 36W) and followed it south into Portage la Prairie, ending at Saskatchewan Avenue, which was PTH 1 at the time. After the current route was established, the original route was designated as PTH 4A until the late 1960's, when the provincial road system was established.
