Rights traded to Jets by Vancouver Canucks with Vancouver's 4th round choice (Tom Martin) in 1982 Entry Draft as compensation for Vancouver's signing of Ivan Hlinka, July 15, 1981. Traded to Colorado Rockies with Winnipeg's 3rd round choice (Dave Kasper) in 1982 Entry Draft for Lucien DeBlois, July 15, 1981. Traded to Jets by Detroit Red Wings for Paul MacLean, June 13, 1988. Traded to Boston Bruins for Petri Skriko, October 29, 1991.
Brent Ashton was initially a Jet on paper in 1982 when the Jets acquired his rights from the Vancouver Canucks as compensation for Ivan Hlinka. The same day, his rights were traded to the Colorado Rockies, but the Jets acquired him for real in the summer of 1988. He spent three full seasons with the Jets before the Jets dealt him to the Boston Bruins early in the 1991-1992 season. He remained in the Bruins' organization for two seasons before moving on to the Calgary Flames and finishing his lengthy pro career in the IHL in 1993-1994.
