#8 - Jimmy Mann

James Edward Mann
Position: Right Wing
Born April 17, 1959 in Montreal, Quebec
Height: 6' 0" Weight: 202
Winnipeg's 1st choice, 19th overall, in 1979 Entry Draft. Traded to Quebec Nordiques for Quebec's 5th round choice in 1984 Entry Draft, February 6, 1984.
Following a penalty-filled junior career that included time in courtrooms, the Jets chose Jimmy Mann with the 19th overall selection in the 1979 Entry Draft. Upon joining the Jets, Mann lived up to his reputation and though he was a hard worker with a good attitude, he did little for the Jets besides fight. The Jets traded Mann to the Quebec Nordiques in February 1984 and after parts of three seasons with the Nordiques, he saw his last NHL action with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1987-1988. He wound up his playing career with the IHL's Indianapolis Ice, where he racked up 275 penalty minutes in only 38 games. The selection of Mann in the first round was probably General Manager John Ferguson's most egregious error during his tenure.
