#6 - Jim Kyte

James G. Kyte
Position: Defense
Born March 21, 1964 in Ottawa, Ontario
Height: 6' 5" Weight: 210
Winnipeg's 1st choice, 12th overall, in 1982 Entry Draft. Traded to Pittsburgh Penguins with Andrew McBain and Randy Gilhen for Randy Cunneyworth, Rick Tabaracci, and Dave McLlwain, June 17, 1989.
The Jets picked rugged defenseman Jim Kyte with the 12th overall selection in the 1982 Entry Draft and he made his NHL debut late in the 1982-1983 season. He was a fixture on the Jets' blue line for the next six seasons and he acquired a reputation as one of the most respected and feared fighters in hockey, in addition to being a very capable stay-at-home defender. The Jets traded Kyte to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the summer of 1989 and he went on to play eight more seasons professionally split between the Penguins, Calgary Flames, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks, and various minor league teams. He ended his playing career following the 1996-1997 season. Kyte was noted for being the first legally deaf NHL player and he went on to run his own hockey school for hearing-impaired children.
