#35 - Nikolai Khabibulin

Nikolai Alexandrovich Khabibulin
Position: Goaltender
Born January 13, 1973 in Sverdlovsk, Ukraine
Height: 6' 1" Weight: 176
Winnipeg's 8th choice, 204th overall, in 1992 Entry Draft.
The Jets chose goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin in the ninth round of the 1992 Entry Draft and he made his Jets debut in 1995, splitting time with Tim Cheveldae. He moved into the starter's role the following season and backstopped the Jets to their first playoff berth in three seasons. In the first round of the 1996 playoffs, he was brilliant and, with his team facing elimination, singlehandedly won Game 5 in Detroit in a game that few of his teammates wanted to win. He moved with the team to Arizona and played with the relocated franchise for three seasons before sitting out most of the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons due to a contract dispute. Khabibulin was then traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he was an important part of their Stanley Cup championship team in 2003-2004. He spent three full seasons with the Lightning, then signed with the Chicago Blackhawks. After four seasons in Chicago, he signed with the hated Edmonton Oilers.
